Graham Gristwood: August 2013

On life, orienteering and everything. Fantastic Scottish 6 Days. After WOC, I spent almost 3 weeks in Scotland - I visited friends in Stirling and Speyside, did some WOC 2015 relevant training, made some new friends (mostly with my fantastic lego skills) and took part in the Scottish 6 Day. This year the 6 Day was held in Moray, with 4 coastal days and 2 inland, and it seemed like the ideal way to kick-start preparation for WOC 2015. Day 1 was held at Lossie. Second place, 2 mins down on Bergman. I had a...

Graham Gristwood: Tiomila
http://grahamgristwood.blogspot.com/2014/05/tiomila.html
On life, orienteering and everything. Is generally the biggest target of the year for any Swedish club, and IFK Mora (the club I run for and coach) is no exception. The men were 8th last year and with a stronger team this year the dream was to be top 5. We had very good preparations, and no problems with sickness or injury so we were able to select our strongest possible team. This was the result of 15-20 guys training hard all year, and 10 good performances from those selected to be in the first team.

On life, orienteering and everything. Nice weekend and good competitions. It was especially nice to get a silver in the relay with my new club FVO. I then had an unscheduled trip back to the UK following an unfortunate death in the family. I spent some time with my family, but managed to do some excellent orienteering in the Lake District during my trip. Middle distance map. And long distance map. Some of the best terrain in the UK! Then is was time for one last night training. Before Tiomila. I ran ...

On life, orienteering and everything. I missed every single test race for World Champs, but luckily, enough of the selectors had faith in me to give me a chance if I felt I was fit enough, and the last 3 weeks before the champs even felt ok in training (although in retrospect I was kidding myself a little bit). On life, orienteering and everything. Hat trick in the hills. Luckily, the minute or so that we lost was inconsequential as Simon ran the fastest leg time on 4th leg to win the 2012 relays for Mercia! Andy and I still managed to win the leg, and maintain our unbeaten record as a pair. Leg 1,2 and 4 maps here. Results and splits here. Splits and maps etc. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). On life, orienteering and everything. Is a week-long festival of orienteering in Scotland this October. Perfect for people wanting to prepare for World Championships in Scotland, or just enjoy some high class orienteering. The week kicks off with races and a ceilidh in Edinburgh and Stirling, then there is free training during the week in Deeside, followed by the JOK Chasing Sprint, a classic race at Balmoral Castle, and a closing event in the sand dunes of Forvie. Full information is available here.
