From the Liberry of...: July 2015

http://www.fromtheliberryof.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

From the Liberry of. Saturday, July 18, 2015. Summer is flying by…but not fast enough. It was well over a month ago I posted a recap of events going on during our summer reading. My goal was to post one every week. Let all laugh at my optimism and naiveté. Seriously this has been one of the busiest summers I have ever experienced. Busy work, maintenance, book reviews, and blogging have been pushed aside to for answering questions, prepping for programs, and assisting kids and co-workers. I snapped and to...

From the Liberry of. Friday, June 12, 2015. Summer Reading: Week One Recap. Summer Reading is finally here! Our first week is kinda of slow because we have the oddity of most of our kids still being in school when summer reading starts. Yes that late! Many of the other community libraries started their programs on May 30 and we started last Saturday on June 8. The major school district in our town still had kids school till last Tuesday. 8212; J. From the Liberry of. Saturday, October 25, 2014. Halloween at the Liberry. I love Halloween. So much so that I asked for the week of Halloween off so I could spend it with my family and avoid work all together! Two years ago I had to come in the day after Christmas during a major snow storm! My consolation prize is a mini vacation for myself so I can take my kid trick or treating. Order in pizza and stay up late watching old horror movies. Let me have my holiday! From the Liberry of. Saturday, November 15, 2014. I was informed by my shelver friend and partner in crime that most of the circ staff were wearing gloves last night. No latex gloves, they were worried about getting sick. Like catching the flu? No Ebola. They didn't want to catch Ebola. Yes they were serious about this). Panic now because ebola. From the Liberry of. Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Storytime from the Liberry:Weather. Ugh I'm so far behind in updating this blog. Our Summer Reading is almost over and I'm going on vacation the day after we end.so I guess I've been preoccupied. Fizz Boom Crash: A Toddler Storytime about the Weather. Back story, this storytime was in my circulation two years ago and I called it "Wacky Weather" the day I was suppose to present it, we had a freak March snowstorm so next to no one showed up! Library Lalaland: August 2015

http://lalalalibrary.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 17, 2015. Charm Bracelets for Tweens. I'm always getting ideas from the Klutz. Books and this time around we made charm bracelets. I had the original book. So I put the clay on the tables, made the book available if they needed ideas, and let them go to it. Here's what I learned:. I decided to do the baking in batches and the first batch went in at the ten minute mark, but while I had anticipated making two batches, we ended up making four. Gumball machine and moon on the glazing rack.

Friday, July 31, 2015. Superhero Training: Elementary School Kids. I broke my superhero trainings into two groups: the preschoolers and the school-aged crowd. I wrote about my preschool one here. These are the modifications I made for the older group. Things I kept the same:. Things I did differently:. 1 - Superhero Names. 2 - Create a Sidekick. Out came my trusty Slick Stix for the superhero shields. I had ended up with lots of colored plates that failed to be masks for our Act Out! Do you have the cour...

Library Lalaland: January 2015

http://lalalalibrary.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Friday, January 30, 2015. Flannel Friday: Bear's Picture. This flannel story is loosely based on Frank Asch's Bread and Honey. But I have changed it a little bit to make it a more dramatic flannelboard. (See notes at the end). One day at school, Bear painted a picture of his mother. He gave her a nice round bear face, a short bear neck, two little bear eyes, some friendly bear eyes, a little bear nose, and a sweet bear smile. (I put on the pieces as I say each piece). Owl thinks the eyes are too small.

http://lalalalibrary.blogspot.com/2015/08/flannel-friday-placeholder.html

Thursday, August 6, 2015. Are you planning your fall storytimes? Well, strap yourself in because this week's round-up is going to make at least one of those storytimes a breeze. Ready? Ok, here we go. First off, we have Danielle at Library Danielle. Who has ducks, frogs, and a lovely flannel to go along with Little White Duck. Why do good books go out of print? This is the question we all ask ourselves when we see a super-cute flannel that we now want to make.). Mel, over at Mel's Desk. Or on the blog.

Library Lalaland: Piñata Making

http://lalalalibrary.blogspot.com/2015/08/pinata-making.html

Tuesday, August 4, 2015. This summer I tried something new for me: three day camps. These sorts of things have never worked for me before because I could never count on the kids coming back day after day, but at this particular library, I've been seeing a good repeat rate so I thought I would give it a try. The benefit to the camp is that while I'm usually stuck with craft projects that can be finished in an hour, with a camp I could expand the possibilities to include more complex projects. Drying. ...

Library Lalaland: April 2015

http://lalalalibrary.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 24, 2015. Every once in a while, I like to shake up my storytime crowd and do something different. This time, it was the preschool/toddler obstacle course. I got the idea from The Show Me Librarian. Originally, and then I looked up some more ideas, considered what I had in stock, and set up my course. In the end, I ended up spending $7 on seven hula hoops and that was it. Program. I simply made them in to cubes and stacked them up to build a castle. The Big Tunnel. Not pretty, but fun.

Library Lalaland: December 2014

http://lalalalibrary.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 10, 2014. A favorite holiday-ish program at my library is the annual Gingerbread House. You'll need a metric ton (exact measurement! Metric ton of candy. That made lovely fences and windows. I do two sessions of the program back to back and sign up 45 kids for each. With no-shows this year, I ended up with 79 total kids plus parents. Before the day of the program, I cut out lots of small cardboard squares and covered them with tin foil to make the bases. And put that one in bowls with...

Library Lalaland: Summer Reading Collaborative Art

http://lalalalibrary.blogspot.com/2015/08/summer-reading-collaborative-art.html

Sunday, August 2, 2015. Summer Reading Collaborative Art. This year, I revamped my Summer Library Program from the bottom up. I did away with plastic prizes (woo hoo! And now give out a free book, a fines coupon, and the opportunity to put a bookplate in your favorite library book. I changed from a reading log with only blank lines in it to a reading log with a three-pronged approach to the summer: read, do stuff, and visit the library. Here's a jpg. (I hope this format works.). What's that, you say?

Friday, November 28, 2014. Flannel Friday: Felt Board Family. Many years ago, my boss, who grew up in India, told me a story of her childhood that I thought would make a great flannelboard story. I made the pieces for it: my boss as a little girl, her sister, her parents, and the police officer. This story also needed a monkey and a tree, which I borrowed from another flannel set. Here are the family pieces:. Yeah, that's her hand that's still stuck to her dress. Saturday, November 8, 2014. I found this ...

This Blog Brought To You By The Letter A. The Abundant Anthology of one Artistic Amanda. August 2, 2013. Where has the year gone? Seriously. I was just thinking that I couldn’t believe Friday was here till I realized that we are already two days into AUGUST. Since my term as President of the NJC has ended, my house sold, and the move happened, things have more or less returned to normal. Normal – a word I use very loosely, since… well, what is that, anyway? 8230; and then a host of wedding stuff. The fol...
