April 27, 2014. Born and raised in Peoria, Illinois Connie first came to Guatemala in 1963. Having just completed her degree in Sociology from Stanford University, she came with her new husband who was doing research for his dissertation. Barely speaking Spanish she began her journey of a now more than fifty-year love affair with Guatemala and Central America. One day, an ex-Honduran army sergeant came to the food bank and told Connie that his own mother had tearfully demanded that he leave Honduras and ...

From Colfax To Xela: September 2011
http://fromcolfaxtoxela.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 29, 2011. When we first got Mia while living in Guatemala, one of our friends told us we should have named her Mi Amor.Mia More.it means "my love" in Spanish. Isn't that so cute? We loved it, so it stuck but only as a nickname since her full name had special meaning to us as well - Semilla Maya, "Mayan seed" in Spanish. She was such a tiny little thing and we were lucky to have a chance to see her. Growing is what our little seed has done and just a few weeks ago she turned 2! Since w...

From Colfax To Xela: Here it is.
http://fromcolfaxtoxela.blogspot.com/2011/11/here-it-is.html
Wednesday, November 9, 2011. After that permit is closed out we can officially begin the rest of the work up there. Maybe we'll even be moving in upstairs by late next spring.maybe! My real reason for writing this post however is because today is the day I am finally going to say what's been on my mind (& Ben's too - we're in agreement about all of what's to come) for. The past 1 year, 2 months and 6 days. In other words, exactly how long we've been living in Charlotte. Trying to. It's just that the ...
