The world and more. Sunday, April 30, 2006. Kanchanaburi - the enchanting province. We stayed at the Little Creek Valley Resort - 300 baht a night ($11au) for a gorgeous bungalow, built in African style, complete with an outdoor marble and bamboo shower. The entire property was based on an African village, with tiny huts spread over 30 acres and an open-air restaurant and swimming pool to spend many lazy hours in. Posted by Bol Varga at 3:01 AM. Looking at Kho Tao as you enter by boat. Well, we did it gu...

The world and more. Wednesday, September 20, 2006. Szeged and the Vargas. By way of explanation, Szeged is the town my uncle Tibi and his family live in - and it became our home for almost two weeks after we left Gyamoindre. Szeged is where Em really got to know all my relatives: aka The Varga Clan. After eating we loosened our belts and sat around catching up with all the goss and happenings of Szeged and the Varga clan. Bruce Willis, some hairy guy and Brad Pit. I think he likes his present. A typical ...

The world and more. Wednesday, May 02, 2007. The Swiss Guards at the Vatican with their fashion statement. The Spanish Steps at night - how romantic. The gang in the caravan park. Bol with his nifty speaker device inside the Colosseum. Em throws a coin and makes a wish into what she "thinks" is the Trevi fountain. And then we find the real Trevi fountain by mistake two days later. Above) Looking up at Anghiari and (Below) The view from Anghiari across the Tiber Valley. At the feast with our mates. A grou...

The world and more. Sunday, July 30, 2006. I awoke the following day on my actual birthday to find our bungalow had been decorated in balloons. The girls we had been hanging out with for little more than 24 hours had gone to the effort of hanging them in the middle of the night as a surprise. You can't get much nicer than that! The people you meet when you travel . Our decorated bungalow - after a few balloons had popped. Not a bad spot for a birthday breakfast. Posted by em at 10:13 PM. It was a great f...

The world and more. Wednesday, May 17, 2006. Vang Vien - home away from home. First arriving in Vang Vien all suited up. Not an unusual sight for the main street. Just behind the main street lies the river. Kids here don't need technology for entertainment! Posted by em at 2:00 AM. One night we went out to a traditional Laos feast and musical performance in a large hall, filled with dining tables and a large stage. The hall seated about 150 - and our group of five were the only ones there! After about fi...

The world and more. Thursday, October 19, 2006. Welcome to the land of double-decker buses and squirrels in your backyard. You heard it right folks - SQUIRRELS! And cable TV throughout. And our room is amazing - an attic conversion with ensuite - so if we ever want to get away from the household commotion, we have our little third-floor retreat. But considering Bol and I are probably the loudest people in the house, it's not really a problem! So ladies and gentlemen . welcome to Muswell Hill. Our champio...

The world and more. Wednesday, August 09, 2006. The Best and Worst of Asia. What can we say. Sapa in Vietnam's north next to the Chinese border was one of our favourite places in the entire four and a half months. The mountains with mist and thousands of rice fields were breathtaking. Other big ticks for Vietnam were:. Bia Hoi - sitting on the edge of the street drinking draught beer for 13 cents a glass. Nothing beats that;. Angkor Wat - obviously an amazing place, no explanation needed;. The Lakeside D...

The world and more. Tuesday, February 27, 2007. Does this look like the face of a sober man? Below - Gordon at the theatre where his play has been performed. One of U2's main studios. The view outside my bedroom window in Gordon's apartment. Dublin's docklands, which have recently been redeveloped. Em being the tourist. My final morning in Dublin was spent having a farewell breakfast with Gordon which turned into a surpisingly entertaining event. On our way to the cafe was passed this group . The 1920 Bl...
