Young Observer’s Notebook. Using the Firsthand Food Journal. Students will learn more about what they are eating and not eating. They pick the food: raw, frozen, canned, or packaged. Then sketch the food or its package. They might cut the food to look at the structure, skin, or seeds. Observe the color, size, shape of the food, and the container which holds the food. Is there printed information on the package? Does the food inside the package look the same as the picture on the outside of the package?
