The Gardners in The Gambia. Our experiences leading up to and during our time in The Gambia with VSO. Sunday, October 25, 2009. A couple of old entries. 10 October 2009: New Challenges. We have been in Kerewan for two full weeks now (minus one trip to Kombo/Kartung). It has been better than expected. The facilities are good, the food selection in not bad, the people are lovely and as a bonus Paul has internet at work! And big horrible cockroaches (ugh! 25 September 2009: We have new names. We are an Engl...

The Gardners in The Gambia. Our experiences leading up to and during our time in The Gambia with VSO. Sunday, November 08, 2009. 4 November 2009: An Amusing Post from Paul. Some facts of interest from our time here:. The first son in each family here is called Lamin and the first daughter is fatou. There are a lot of Lamins and fatous. It can get confusing. Courtney doesn’t like cockroaches. She likes killing them, but it seems they are pretty much indestructible. Go cockroaches! Paul and Courtney Gardner.

The Gardners in The Gambia: The last few months . . .
http://thegardnersinthegambia.blogspot.com/2010/06/last-few-months.html
The Gardners in The Gambia. Our experiences leading up to and during our time in The Gambia with VSO. Tuesday, June 15, 2010. The last few months . . . Hard to know where to start since the last entry. Been quite a lot going on here! Alright – that sums it up! Ok a few more details . . . My new place in Kombo is great – quite a bit more comfortable than our Kerewan set up – it’s just lacking my only essential! I’ll get some photos up. Today I waited for nearly two hours for a gelly gelly (public transpor...

The Gardners in The Gambia. Our experiences leading up to and during our time in The Gambia with VSO. Saturday, June 06, 2009. We're starting to pack. It's official. We have accepted a placement in a village in the Gambia where Paul will be a teacher trainer for a cluster of schools. We are scheduled to leave on August 16, 2009 - the day after Rich and Emily's wedding. We are overwhelmed and anxious but most importantly excited about this opportunity! We'll keep you posted on our progress!

The Gardners in The Gambia: Small Challenges
http://thegardnersinthegambia.blogspot.com/2009/09/small-challenges.html
The Gardners in The Gambia. Our experiences leading up to and during our time in The Gambia with VSO. Thursday, September 17, 2009. We are still in the Kombos. We were supposed to go upcountry last Sunday but Paul and Emma were not yet finished with their motorbike training. They have finished now and will be given their bikes tomorrow. We still do not know when we are going upcountry – maybe Wednesday maybe some other day? 1) The spiders are actually massive. I am able to deal with this only because...

The Gardners in The Gambia. Our experiences leading up to and during our time in The Gambia with VSO. Monday, April 05, 2010. Even Longer Time No Post. Despite my best intentions, it seems I’m not doing very well at keeping this blog going. My apologies to anyone who is reading it. I am, however, doing alright at keeping the flickr site updated, so check that out if you want to know what we’ve been up to when I haven’t written. What contributions do unqualified teachers make to education here? Well, beca...
