Sunday, 23 October 2011. After taking the train back to Rome central we had a look for some new luggage bags and scales as mum has done a wee bit of shopping over this trip. We then headed over to the Spanish Steps which like everything else was very popular. There are lots of posh shops here but we headed up to the Borghese Gardens and Art Gallery instead. The gardens were open but the gallery was closed. It is Monday today. After a meander, a gelato and a ride on the carousel. Hilltop town of Volterra.

Monday, 3 October 2011. We had another long drive in the car getting to Switzerland. What should have been about a three and a half hour trip took about six and a half. We stopped in Baden Baden, a resort spa town, for lunch but most of the time was sitting in traffic. At one point we were stationary for about 30 minutes because there was a traffic accident. Lots of people got out of their cars. Baden Baden was a nice town. Driving through Switzerland we went through 8 tunnels. Hilltop town of Volterra.

Sunday, 16 October 2011. Hilltop town of Volterra. Brrrrr. What a cold day. We left this morning thinking it would be another nice warm day but we arrived at Volterra to find it freezing cold. It was very windy too. The Italians were rugged up in their warm coats and long pants. Mum and I froze. Brrr. We tried to spend most of the time indoors so we visited the Etruscan Museum. Saturday, 15 October 2011. Can you believe 54 tunnels in one day? Today we travelled from Lucerne to Venice, via Lake Como through 54 tunnels or more. We passed some lovely countryside. It was very mountainous most of the way and that's why we went through so many tunnels. The longest one was nearly 17km long! It was the Gotthard Tunnel.
