The village sits at the entrance to the national park of Peñalara, whose 2,430 metre-high peak makes it the highest mountain range in the province of Madrid. It is wonderful to drive (or walk, if you're feeling energetic! Into the village in the early evening, and soak up the pre-dinner atmosphere - the village comes truly alive around this time.

The land around the house is rich in wildlife indeed, whether it be majestic eagles circling high above, wild boar coming down from the peaks in wintertime, or deer grazing in the woodland. Protected species in the area include the imperial iberian eagle, the black vulture (see photo - taken from the lounge! And the black stork. Another wonderful sight is the storks nesting in the many nooks and crannies of the hotel and monastery - such an iconic Spanish sight.
