http://kapelanczyk.blogspot.com/2010/05/moms-visit.html
What in the nonsense? Lara goes to Nicaragua. Sunday, May 9, 2010. I haven’t updated this in a while, but I thought I’d now put up some photos from March and April. The day after arriving at the airport we headed to Ometepe where we grabbed a ferry playing a lovely old Jean Claude Van Dam movie. Then as we were headed to my site on the bus the volcano decided to spit out some ash and smoke. Lucia and Ernesto dancing folklore. Lucia and Ernesto dancing Palo de Mayo. Adela and Lucia at the waterfall. Ferna...

What in the nonsense? Lara goes to Nicaragua. Sunday, May 31, 2009. The First 6 Months. So who would believe that I have been living at my site for 6 months already? And living in Nicaragua for 9 months? I am still amazed by the variety of fruits that are down here. The kids have often brought me fruit only to have me ask them “What IS this? ALMENDRA. A close-up of an un-ripe fruit in bad lighting. JOCOTE. A look at some jocote branches. They look like alien slugs or something and smell horrible. But...

What in the nonsense? Lara goes to Nicaragua. Sunday, January 18, 2009. So what I have I been doing since I last wrote? Not too much. School is finally going to start on February third and in the next couple of weeks there are going to be teacher’s meetings and so on. The family who took me out in their boat, minus their son who is sitting next to me and therefore can’t be seen. This is n...

What in the nonsense? Lara goes to Nicaragua. Sunday, June 6, 2010. Time is passing so quickly here in Nicaragua. I have about 5.5 months left! How did that happen? I have been very, very busy lately, juggling my Peace Corps duties, my research project, and some touristy activities that I want to do before I leave. Billin: possibly the smallest 5th grader on the planet, but what he lacks in size he makes up in personality. 3rd and 4th Grade. A lovely petroglyph on the way up the volcano. Also of note, my...

What in the nonsense? Lara goes to Nicaragua. Friday, January 22, 2010. Ten Months Left To Go. Back with my host family things continue as usual. The pig just had piglets, 8 of them, and they are very cute. The kids took me to their farm to show me the new baby cows, one male and one female. For some reason the kids like to touch the little bull’s balls. They think it is funny. I keep asking them why they do it and they just shrug their shoulders and laugh. Weirdoes. Happy New Year to all! I hate how you...
