http://sybilsramblings.blogspot.com/2010/02/puerto-rico-all-good-things-must-come.html
Monday, February 22, 2010. Puerto rico: all good things must come to an end. Alas, the long weekend was over and it was time to head back home. However, we had to have breakfast first. not far from our hotel was a diner and bakery called, la bombonera. That has been around for at least a hundred years. they served typical breakfast fare but i was there for the mallorcas. But then again, i had to remind myself of that other favorite of mine: chicken and waffles. My last view of puerto rico. Puerto rico: t...

sybil's ramblings: December 2008
http://sybilsramblings.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 26, 2008. A glimpse into a christmas family gathering redux. Another year, another christmas. if i was freezing in chicago last year. This year, i was in relatively warmer irvine to celebrate the holiday. Like my other side of the family, there were lots of food. for the gathering, i attempted to make nancy reagan's persimmon pudding cake. I also made these sugar cookies and had fun "decorating" trees. The ham, the quiche and chicken. Like my other side of the family, this gathering also...

sybil's ramblings: puerto rico: life's a beach
http://sybilsramblings.blogspot.com/2010/02/puerto-rico-lifes-beach.html
Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Puerto rico: life's a beach. A few years back, puerto rico decided to spend a lot of money on infomercials enticing people to visit that island. the infomercial showed a lot of beaches. i was sold. However, i only had one long weekend over the president's day weekend to see everything. clearly, that would not be possible. so, i focused on vieques. The vieques airport, located on the atlantic side of the island, was small. there's only one runway. Upon landing and checking in...

sybil's ramblings: July 2008
http://sybilsramblings.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 29, 2008. Had this thread asking what one eats after an earthquake. I guess, i should start at the very beginning. i was in my office this morning when, around 11:30-ish am, i felt a jolt. and i thought, "huh, is that an earthquake? All buildings in downtown la are equipped with rollers so we were swaying for a while, which only made me dizzy. so a few of my co-workers and i went downstairs (taking the stairs, of course; who wants to be trapped in an elevator in case of an aftershock? Tonig...

Tuesday, June 24, 2008. And the drama begins. I knew the lakers would have drama in the off-season as a result of them losing the championship. i just didn't realize it would involve former laker, shaquille o'neal, taunting kobe bryant in a very awful rap as obtained by tmz.com and which i got from youtube below. While shaq apparently issued a statement to espn. So to me, the freestyle sounded more like spite for the lakers' decision to trade shaq. Let the drama continue. Posted by sazy rock. I'm fairly ...

sybil's ramblings: puerto rico: the metropolis
http://sybilsramblings.blogspot.com/2010/02/puerto-rico-metropolis.html
Sunday, February 21, 2010. Puerto rico: the metropolis. Our last day in vieques was not terribly exciting. our landlord kicked us out early because he had new tenants coming in. that left us to ponder how we were going to get to the airport. but before we panicked, we had to have breakfast. our landlord dropped us back in isabel ii at a restaurant called mamasonga's and arranged for a cab to pick us up and drop us off at the airport. The bread, however, was pretty darned good. The crab cake sandwich.

sybil's ramblings: hiking griffith park: an unrebellious cause
http://sybilsramblings.blogspot.com/2010/02/hiking-griffith-park-unrebellious-cause.html
Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Hiking griffith park: an unrebellious cause. It rained on friday and we thought that because saturday was relatively dry, it would have been very clear on sunday. little did we know that more rain was on the way. so, on sunday, instead of the clear blue skies i have come to expect after the rain, we got dramatic views of los angeles with storm clouds hovering over the megalopolis during our hike. Below is a picture of mt. hollywood peak:. This was the seafood omelet:. I supp...

sybil's ramblings: puerto rico: no beaches allowed
http://sybilsramblings.blogspot.com/2010/02/puerto-rico-no-beaches-allowed.html
Saturday, February 20, 2010. Puerto rico: no beaches allowed. After a heavy night of partying (*cough* *sarcasm* *cough*), az and i were set to explore the north side of vieques. avoiding barrio esperanza, we decided to find breakfast in barrio isabel ii, also known as the vieques capital. it was no bustling metropolis but it had more than one "main road.". Have i already mentioned that the island has only two gas stations (a block from each other) and one supermarket - all in isabel segunda? Getting our...

Sunday, January 24, 2010. Sandstone peak: the first hike of 2010. It has been a while since i last posted primarily because of life. that being said, i haven't stopped hiking or traveling or caring about ucla (despite ucla's recent issues in BOTH football and basketball - ugh! Life has been manageable again so here goes. This time, we chose sandstone peak near the border of los angeles and ventura counties off pacific coast highway. When we got there, the trail was, remarkably, not as muddy as one would ...
