The Dipsea Race Course. The Dipsea Race Course, Turn-by-Turn:. The course begins in front of the Depot Bookstore, on Thockmorton Avenue in Mill Valley. Head west on Throckmorton Avenue. Continue on Throckmorton Avenue until you reach the intersection with Olive Avenue. At the crosswalk, turn left, and run through Old Mill Park.Most runners stay to the left of the restrooms, but some go to the right, to avoid the crowds. Run between the two playground areas. At the top of the stone steps, turn right.

A Brief History of the Dipsea Race. One summer day in 1904, several members of San Francisco's venerable Olympic Club set off for the Dipsea Inn, which had just opened on the Pacific Ocean sand spit now called Seadrift. They took the ferry to Sausalito, then the train to their starting point, the depot in Mill Valley. A wager was made as to who could make it to the Inn first. The challenge proved so exciting that Club members decided to make an annual race of it. 1905 - John Hassard. 1906 - John Hassard.

The Dipsea Race: Head Starts

Six 2015 runners three women and two men established new single age records. Three older women set single age records. They were Melody Anne Schultz at age 73, Eve Pell at age 78, and Barbara Robben at age 81. None of the new women’s age records justifies revisions to the 2015 head starts. Hence, no adjustment to last year’s head starts is needed in 2016. Head Start Table and Start Times for 2016. 6 and under, 74 and over. 7 and under, 66 and over.

Dipsea: the greatest race. Friday, November 10, 2017. WOMEN’S DIPSEA HIKE CENTENNIAL, APRIL 21, 2018. The 75th anniversary of the Women’s Hikes was celebrated in 1993 and two participants attended. The last Hike survivor, Helen Signorio Stratta, died in 2009 at age 107. Hike descendants are especially encouraged to participate.
