Winter fuel and clean air – Narrowboat Swallow
http://narrowboatswallow.co.uk/winter-fuel-and-clean-air-manchester
The story of a little red boat. Raquo; Winter fuel and clean air. October 17, 2014. Winter fuel and clean air. The whole of Manchester is covered by the Clean Air Act. Meaning that there are restrictions on what you can and can’t burn for heating. I discovered this shortly after it got cold, when a notice from the council was pinned up in the boaters’ hut, stating that the burning of wood was generally not permitted. Narrowboat Honey: The weather and our boating plans...
http://www.narrowboating.org.uk/2014/08/the-weather-and-our-boating-plans.html
Saturday, 2 August 2014. The weather and our boating plans. After two weeks of Mediterranean weather, we clambered aboard Honey just in time for the downpours. Settling in was quick, but we haven't been able to give Honey the thorough wash she deserves; that will have to wait until the rain stops. We met the local branch of the IWA at Hurleston Locks, where they were doing all the hard work in exchange for donations, and they were so friendly and helpful despite the weather. 1 November 2016 at 12:36.

Narrowboat Honey: May 2013
http://www.narrowboating.org.uk/2013_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, 25 May 2013. No boating this spring. We've had a busy spring, and not even managed a day trip yet. Honey has survived the winter in good fettle, with the exception of her starter battery, and we had originally planned to move her to her new home during the Easter break (no, I'm not telling until we get there - but we're really excited about it! However, the sight of three inches of snow on her roof three days before our planned departure had Mic shivering, and the trip was postponed. One of our...

Narrowboat Honey: August 2014
http://www.narrowboating.org.uk/2014_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 13 August 2014. So many photos, so little mobile data signal. The Llangollen Canal is beautiful - but out of range of mobile data signal, so we have been unable to blog for a few days. To make it up to you, here are a few photos. Links to this post. Wednesday, 6 August 2014. The Anderton Boat Lift and River Weaver. As ever, Honey loved the river. A good hull can be appreciated so much more in the flowing meanders - and we loved our sunlit meals at remote moorings. Links to this post. After two...

Narrowboat Honey: April 2014

Sunday, 13 April 2014. Shropshire in the spring. Is very, very pretty. The area provided essential raw materials for Birmingham's most important industry - Knighton Wharf was where the milk was loaded onto the fly boats to be taken to Cadbury's in Bourneville. Woodseaves Cutting is a spectacular feat of hand-dug early 18th century engineering: over a mile of designated Special Scientific Interest, the rock is so soft that has been crumbling for 180 years. But Audlem is always worth a visit. Subscribe to:...

Narrowboat Honey: January 2015
http://www.narrowboating.org.uk/2015_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, 8 January 2015. A very difficult decision. Last year we managed just 18 days of boating. This year, we have opportunity for even less. This is because of my new job, which needs me at work when everyone else in the family is on holiday. Boating works when everyone's holidays coincide, but when they don't then the year round maintenance, licensing, insurance and mooring costs are too much for just a fortnight of holiday every year. I will leave it to Honey's new owners to introduce themselves (t...

It all started one Saturday morning in 2011, when I grumbled and moaned throughout the 140 mile journey to a marina, constantly repeating, " We are not buying a bloody boat. Arena of the Unwell.

Narrowboat Honey: December 2013
http://www.narrowboating.org.uk/2013_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 4 December 2013. The painting is finished. Have done us proud. Honey is looking gorgeous in her new colours and livery - and only a lack of space in the wharf (and time to do anything about it) prevented me from getting her into a position to take some proper photographs. That will have to wait until after Christmas when we will have a short "Brass Monkeys Cruise" back to Swanley Marina. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). It's All About Honey.
