la grimpeuse: The flying Kiwi
http://climbingqueen.blogspot.com/2011/10/flying-kiwi.html
Stories, thoughts and general chat from a woman who loves cycling, particularly in the hills and mountains. Sunday, 30 October 2011. The Women's 10 TT series trophy - originally the Vale of Leven. Clarion CC's Ladies Championship trophy from 1950. Last weekend I was very excited to see the All Blacks lift the Web Ellis Trophy, but I was equally excited to lift the West Lothian Clarion Women’s time trial champion trophy. Short and fast is not really my forte. Oh dear, I thought, this does look serious....

Stories, thoughts and general chat from a woman who loves cycling, particularly in the hills and mountains. Saturday, 23 October 2010. Kingscavil Hill Climb 2010. And so an era ended last Sunday. . This time last year I entered the West Lothian Clarion Hill Climb competition. . I really entered on a last minute whim, because a) I wanted to give support to the local cycling club who had the nous to close off a road for an event and b) because I fancy myself as a bit of a hill climber. . With some of th...

Stories, thoughts and general chat from a woman who loves cycling, particularly in the hills and mountains. Saturday, 27 August 2011. Ken Laidlaw Sportive 2011. Two years ago I rode my first century, the Ken Laidlaw Sportive, in torrential rain. On paper it should have been a miserable experience as I also rode on my own and hadn’t done enough training. But it was the best ever event I had ridden, due to the stunning route on quiet roads and the great organisation and camaraderie. Soon we left the urbun ...

Stories, thoughts and general chat from a woman who loves cycling, particularly in the hills and mountains. Wednesday, 23 March 2011. Lake Feminine APR 20 March 2011. Driving up the M9, a rainbow appears from the murky Scottish Day as I listen to hyper pumping tunes on Radio 1 on the way to Balfron. Balfron is the HQ for the Lake Feminine APR, a women’s only handicapped road race. Why, as I near the age of 40, am I putting myself through this? Well a few reasons. Debbie is my club mate and fellow committ...
la grimpeuse: Hell Hath No Fury - possibly the best training video ever
http://climbingqueen.blogspot.com/2011/11/hell-hath-no-fury-possibly-best.html
Stories, thoughts and general chat from a woman who loves cycling, particularly in the hills and mountains. Monday, 28 November 2011. Hell Hath No Fury - possibly the best training video ever. It is not everyday that you can get excited about turbo training. But when I heard that the Sufferfest had released a new training video – Hell Hath No Fury - which featured the UCI Women’s World Cup I was excited. Based on this I then download a couple more videos to vary my training (Revolver and Downward Spiral).

La Marmotte 2010: A Novice's Diary: March 2010
http://michellemgregory.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
La Marmotte 2010: A Novice's Diary. This is my personal record of my attempt to complete La Marmotte 2010. Sunday, 21 March 2010. 103 Days to Go: Spring has sprung. Finally felt like spring was here this weekend. Felt very warm yesterday when I went out for a "hard as you can" burst around one of my normal training routes in an attempt to get faster and stronger on the hills. Time for a hot bath and a lovely green and blacks hot chocolate, with a shot of whisky. Links to this post. Sunday, 14 March 2010.

La Marmotte 2010: A Novice's Diary. This is my personal record of my attempt to complete La Marmotte 2010. Friday, 4 June 2010. 35 Days to Go: La Marmotte Recce Part 4 - Alpe D'Huez. Was always going to be my day of reckoning. Four years ago I rode up my first alpine climb, Alpe. Needless to say it took me about 1 hour 45 minutes to get to the top, including quite a few stops. So as you can imagine, my memory of Alpe. Was leaving me feel a little bit apprehensive. I was prepared for the start of Alpe.

La Marmotte 2010: A Novice's Diary. This is my personal record of my attempt to complete La Marmotte 2010. Sunday, 14 February 2010. 139 Days to Go: Winter Weight. The truth really came out yesterday when I went out with the club yesterday on the Social ride. Was a bit worried when I saw the shiny clean bikes and fit looking guys and thought I might have to try to hang on to the back of the Active group. Thankfully Andy turned up at the last minute (baring his legs in shorts! Links to this post. Hell Hat...

La Marmotte 2010: A Novice's Diary. This is my personal record of my attempt to complete La Marmotte 2010. Sunday, 25 April 2010. 68 Days to Go: Uphill Struggle. Wednesday night I linked up all the hills in the Bathgate. To focus on getting my climbing muscles into shape. 600 metres of climbing and loved every minute of it! Great, I thought, 2 days to recover until Saturday's long ride. Then I got overtaken by someone! And cut the ride short. That just left the final climb to get back to the starting poi...

La Marmotte 2010: A Novice's Diary. This is my personal record of my attempt to complete La Marmotte 2010. Sunday, 27 June 2010. 5 Days to Go: Shipping Out. Well the bags are packed for the flight to Lyon tomorrow so it's no going back now. I am fitter than I have ever been, developed muscle definition like never before and am pushing much bigger gears up the hills now. I have had tears, laughter, tantrums, hard days, good days, thrills and spills. Could I have done more training? Links to this post.

La Marmotte 2010: A Novice's Diary. This is my personal record of my attempt to complete La Marmotte 2010. Friday, 4 June 2010. 36 Days to Go: La Marmotte Recce part 3 - Walking the Galibier. In order to understand the final 8 kms of the beast that is the Galibier I attempted to walk the final 8kms. The road is not as steep as it first looked as there are some switch backs to take some of the pain out, well at least until the last 2 kms that is. Then it looks mental! Switch backs at 8km to go.

La Marmotte 2010: A Novice's Diary. This is my personal record of my attempt to complete La Marmotte 2010. Saturday, 10 July 2010. Day 0: The ride of my life. By 6:30 I was descending off Alpe. To the start. It was a beautiful serene morning, and everyone was dropping down the hill in silence, making for a surreal start to the day. I arrived in the 4000 pen after bidding farewell and bon. And we were off! After hearing my dibber. Beep as I passed over the start line I soon settled into the biggest peleton.

La Marmotte 2010: A Novice's Diary. This is my personal record of my attempt to complete La Marmotte 2010. Sunday, 24 January 2010. 160 Days to Go: Sucking on diesel. Cross training yesterday. Went on a favourite route and felt the strongest I have ever felt on that run. Felt like I was "sucking on diesel". I find that running really helps my cycling as it improves my stamina, which in turn improves my climbing up steep hills. Links to this post. Thursday, 21 January 2010. 163 Days to Go: Caught Short.

We arrived in Bourg. Late on Sunday and after a terrible night's sleep at the Hotel Oberland. Not recommended), we moved to Allemont. To find a nicer spot. We happened to find the excellent Auberge. Hotel Once booked in , Monday was pretty much about catching up on sleep, setting up the bike and getting in some carbs.

Saturday, November 12, 2011. So much reading, not much writing. Since I last posted asking for your thoughts on topics to write about I have been furiously working behind the scenes researching new ideas. Thank you for all of your feedback! So thanks again for all of your ideas! Please keep them coming and I will look int...

Quandary
Tuesday, June 28, 2005. I have been climbing 14,000 foot peaks since TJ Schmidt and I tackled Mt Huron in August of 1995. Since then I have summated. 16 of them, nine with Jennifer. We made the decision that Quentin should attempt one with us. I did some research and found that. Quandary was suppose to be an easy one to climb. I decided on the South Gully Route. It is one mile long, but climbs 2575 vertical feet. I felt that we could make it up this route and then down the standard route which is 3 miles.
