清水
清水舊稱牛罵頭，1920年易名。本地自清廷領台後，隸屬諸羅縣牛罵社。1723年諸羅以北百餘里之地，南自虎尾，北至大甲溪設彰化縣治。本鎮歸彰邑管轄，為大肚西保牛罵社所屬荒地。 所謂社者，即為原住民的村落。牛罵社主要為拍瀑拉族。 後有泉州人楊、蔡族人來台，至牛罵社，鑿陂墾拓。至1733年，漢人已向拍瀑拉族承墾開發本鎮境內之十三莊。1764年，牛罵頭既已形成街肆，﹝續修台灣府治﹞載為﹝牛罵街﹞。漢人聚落因位於牛罵社附近，故稱為『牛罵頭街』。﹝彰化縣志﹞作為『寓鰲頭街』。 訂閱： 文章 (Atom).
