Mounting attacks on Tor - and showing how to prevent them | MIT CSAIL
http://www.csail.mit.edu/node/2531
Mounting attacks on Tor - and showing how to prevent them. By using a Tor-enabled computer to connect to a range of different hidden services, CSAIL researchers showed that they could identify those services with 88 percent accuracy. Researchers at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) and the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) have now demonstrated a vulnerability in Tor’s design. At the Usenix Security Symposium this summer. Kwon devised an attack on this system with joi...

How to compute with data you can't see | MIT CSAIL
http://www.csail.mit.edu/node/2533
How to compute with data you can't see. Web applications could increase security by keeping data encrypted even during computations. This week MIT professor Nickolai Zeldovich and his former student Raluca Popa wrote in IEEE Spectrum about new approaches to data encryption being pioneered by CSAIL computer scientists. Here’s one way: Encrypt the data before it’s stored. That way, even if attackers manage to break into the cloud provider’s system and steal data, they’ll just get meaningless gibberish.
