http://turtleranchtales.blogspot.com/2004_09_01_archive.html
A Chronicle Of The Homesteading Experience HOMESTEADING BLOG. Wednesday, September 1, 2004. The Start Of The Journey. It all started 35 years ago in 1972 soon after we were married. We wanted to create our own small sanctuary in which to live. We researched building materials and methods. I drew up plan after plan, adjusting placements of rooms and walls. I would always be searching for the "how to books". We closed in the fall with a small down payment and assuming the loan. Thus we were at the star...

http://turtleranchtales.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html
A Chronicle Of The Homesteading Experience HOMESTEADING BLOG. Friday, September 30, 2005. We decided the first building would be the studio . It would be my office, our bedroom and kitchen. We had a great place in the trees and the site looked almost level. so we cleared the spot for the 22 by 28 foot slab. So now we try to really think if we are really going to use it, other wise we would have a rotting junk yard! As you see there was a lot of guys at the right time to put the cement in place. We also h...

http://turtleranchtales.blogspot.com/2015/07/half-bath-continues-color-coat-goes-on.html
A Chronicle Of The Homesteading Experience HOMESTEADING BLOG. Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Half Bath continues) The color coat goes on. Richard decided to apply the color coat right over the scratch coat to save time. He had to put it on thicker so it did cause some cracks and it used alot more finish material. It turned out looking really cool, like an old Italian Villa! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). AND "Case histories" which are the way others have created their own homestead. WOW a FLUSH TOILET!

Turtle Ranch Tales: February 2006
http://turtleranchtales.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
A Chronicle Of The Homesteading Experience HOMESTEADING BLOG. Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Here we established the circle drive and center area which we plan at some point to make a solid wall and plant flowers inside. These are all recycled cinder block we got from a job that was being torn down. Alot. Of the block was in pieces because of the way they push it over to save time. It is not that easy to chip off the mortar. You need a Hammer and wide chisel. Tapping the line between the brick and the mortar.

A Chronicle Of The Homesteading Experience HOMESTEADING BLOG. Wednesday, June 15, 2005. The enterance, The bone yard and POISON IVY. We had heard that there was poison oak and ivy out here , but by the time we really started working on the land it had died back to sticks, so we did not recognize it . It can look like other plants so it is hard to notice it until you really observe its characteristics. It is always shiny, has rounded edges on the leaves and there are always 3 leaves to the stem. I now kno...

Turtle Ranch Tales: January 2006
http://turtleranchtales.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
A Chronicle Of The Homesteading Experience HOMESTEADING BLOG. Tuesday, January 31, 2006. Building continued.January 2006. We decided to do some more clearing. To give the trees breathing room and see if we could fit another building in this area. We value the power of the bobcat machine that can do a months worth of work in 4 hours. We always feel we get a jump on things when we hire this type of work to get done. To the ground. This is so when you put the trim on the ends it will be perpendicular. All o...
