American Solartechnics

Tuesday, December 27, 2011. Since we make unpressurized tanks, I like to play with the water in the tanks. Our tanks started out life as storage for solar drainback heating systems. They are simple and work well. It seemed to be logical to use that same water that is in the tank for heating things directly. American Solartechnics: Tanks and Insulation

http://blog.americansolartechnics.com/2011/10/tanks-and-insulation.html

Monday, October 17, 2011. So, I ran some numbers. This is a case of diminishing returns. When considering building a home or other building, there is a point where higher insulation values tend to lose cost benefit. The same is true for tanks. We will offer higher insulation tanks if someone wants it. It is not hard to do. The cost just goes up. Believe it or not, the cost of insulation is one of the larger costs for any tank. Murphy’s Law rules supreme in the universe, even with tanks.

American Solartechnics: August 2011

http://blog.americansolartechnics.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 26, 2011. Many people have asked me about plastic heat exchangers for their (our) tanks. There has been a ton of research done on this. Many researchers feel that a special injection molded heat exchanger that looks like a car radiator might work well. We have spent some time on this matter and certainly follow as much research as we can find. This is a tough design situation. Just looking at thermal conductivity, plastic is about 1/100 the conductivity of copper. I am also a little bit ne...

Old doors are a great material to repurpose. First, they’re usually easy to find. I’ve found them in the basements of both homes we’ve lived in, at salvage yards, at thrift stores, even by the side of the road! Second, because old doors are usually solid wood, they can be turned into other furniture pieces […]. A Life Well Lived.

Thursday, July 9, 2015. So, the NFL Top 100 list recently came out and is sure to be hotly contested. I have to say right off the bat that I couldn’t agree more with JJ Watt being number 1. He is a once in a generation superstar defender who is so talented that he changes the way an offense conducts business. Moreover, he even occasionally plays offense and scores as a defender and offender! I am more or less in agreement with the rest of the top 10, with a few exceptions. My Top 10 List:. In my opinion,...
