About the Olive Plants. About the Kingdom Arrows. Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Getting Ready for YBC 2014. The Olive Plants are still alive and well and birding! Two years ago, I was diagnosed with an auto-immune condition, MCTD, and have since been diagnosed with lupus as an overlap condition. For this reason, I have had to put many projects, including my Birding 101 series, way, way back on the farthest back burner. :). Here they are getting ready for the competition. Birders for Life: July 2011

http://birdersforlife.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

About the Olive Plants. About the Kingdom Arrows. Saturday, July 9, 2011. Birding 101: Birding by Ear. When we started bird watching, I thought being able to distinguish between bird songs was some kind of special ability that only truly gifted naturalists possessed. I never imagined that the boys and I would be able to quickly and easily identify a long list of birds just by hearing their songs/calls. Mnemonics have helped us greatly, and over at Olive Plants. Though slow-going, this series is not dead!

About the Olive Plants. About the Kingdom Arrows. Friday, July 1, 2011. Tweet and See: June 2011. For more Tweet and See fun! We had a great month of birding. The backyard is still in disarray as my husband is completing a backyard remodel which includes the removal of a rather large magnolia tree. The Magnolia Tree sans Branches. The trunk is about to go soon. :(. One of the birds I saw in a student's neighborhood: the Killdeer! My husband took this picture at the lake,. Not in the subdivision, however.

Drawing with Children, Nature-Style. Wednesday, May 4, 2011. Drawing with Children, Lesson 4 (cont'd). This week we completed Lesson 4 in. We were to draw the Tiger Lilies that were shown on page 154, but using our own colors. The main focus was learning how to "block" lighter colors first and then add the darker colors over them. The first time where I have really seen the difference in using these awesome markers. And we can all see what. You have done. Remember to visit Barb's Squidoo Page. I know you...

Drawing with Children, Nature-Style. Wednesday, March 9, 2011. Drawing with Children, Nature-Style. Lesson 1, see side bar for previous posts. Feel free to jump in at any point- the more the merrier. To point this out! She restarted her bird five times, with many tears. I am not bothered by her tears, for this child, tears are her way of complaining. I found that if I read the directions and then drew what it said on my paper and showed it to the group they were able to draw it better. My kids really enj...

Kingdom Arrows: Anxiety Disorder

http://kingdom-arrows.blogspot.com/p/severe-anxiety-disorder-and-our-family.html

Drawing with Children, Nature-Style. I am including this LONG page to chronicle our family's journey through having a daughter who did not hear, speak or see for 8 weeks, the summer of 2010. Kae-Kae was 12 years old, and was dissociating for 95% of a day. I had another blog which I have shut down, but wanted to include our journey, as I recorded it, here. Kae-Kae has been under the futon for 5 weeks. Her label: Dissociative Anxiety Disorder N.O.S. 1 Do you feel happy, sad or angry? The answers to those q...

So, December 2010 was the first month of this new adventure. In January 2011, I opened the first meme for Tweet and See for other families to keep their Bird Lists. We had four other families participate from Georgia, Ohio, California and Maine! Feel free to spread the news! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). See me on Etsy! Drawing with Children, Nature-Style.

Drawing with Children, Nature-Style. Tuesday, August 2, 2011. July Tweet and See. As is obvious, I am taking a seriously long blog hiatus. Life has other demands I need to focus on, such as the second of my children developing a panic disorder. But, I did want to let you know a little of what is still going on around here, and list my Tweet and See! As for books I have been reading. The Importance of Being Earnest. Absolutely hysterical and a quick read. Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The Pursuit of God. And I ...

The Birder's Conundrum

Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Pie Chart: How Birders Spend Their Time. How do birders spend their time? It's pretty much different for everyone. But if we are generalizing, this pie chart should be a good breakdown of a birder's free time. Birding makes up a decent chunk of this time, but not all of it, as you will see below. We even manage a decent amount of normal human interaction - that's good news! We also took the liberty to further dissect the "birding" slice, below:. Is there anything we left off?
