Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka: Papaya cultivation
http://rajaratagamarala.blogspot.com/2007/06/papaya-cultivation.html
Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka. Sunday, June 24, 2007. So with the next set of seedlings I planted I decided to plant it above ground on mounds so there will never be water retention. This meant that I had to ensure when it no longer rains I have to deep water once a week so they get the required moisture. And I am very careful as to how the fruit is plucked and packed as transporting papaya is most important to get it to the customers in the best condition. I have got chicken manure from a local chicken ...

Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka: Rice Paddy cultivation April/May 2007

Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka. Friday, June 22, 2007. Rice Paddy cultivation April/May 2007. Of course I had to spend a further 10,000/- on tractor hire to plough the fields and ready it for transplanting. I do not have my own hand-tractor. I also spent a further 3,500/- on getting the fields cleared of weeds on the perimeter and strengthening them for the gravity fed watering of the fields from the irrigation canal water that I receive. Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka: The way forward
http://rajaratagamarala.blogspot.com/2007/06/way-forward.html
Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka. Friday, June 22, 2007. There is little one can add to the subjects of the day unless we can actually make a change. Many ideas though sensible are not practical unless there is a grassroots uprising that can push for change. This is not difficult to do. It does not need any money just a change of heart and a determination to do what is right. We have looked for leadership to set the example from the top but as that has been lacking we have to work in reverse and sho...Sri L...
Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka: August 2007
http://rajaratagamarala.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka. Wednesday, August 1, 2007. I farm my paddy fields in Hingurakgoda. I depend on water from the Minneriya. Tank) My fields are at the end of the Ela. Tributary of the canal. I do not get any water allocation, as the farmers further ahead of me have diverted the water to their fields. I am not the only farmer to suffer, many farmers further down from the canals origins are also suffer ring. How can we be put in an unbearable situation like this, as we have nothing left with al...
Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka: Craving for position
http://rajaratagamarala.blogspot.com/2007/06/craving-for-position.html
Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka. Friday, June 22, 2007. In the quest to improve our institutions, to better serve the people whom these bodies have been set up for, we must try and do something about the title. It must also be noted that the last meeting was attended by 50% of the farmers that belonged to the particular area society and it was determined that we fine the half that did not attend in order that we may have a higher turnout next time round! Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka: Farmers fighting for water

Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka. Saturday, June 23, 2007. Farmers fighting for water. I am going to relate a true story of my efforts to obtain my basic entitlement of water from the Minneriya Wewa to cultivate my paddy for both the Yala and Maha season. Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka: Cows' Milk and Powdered Milk the irony
http://rajaratagamarala.blogspot.com/2007/06/cows-milk-and-powdered-milk-irony.html
Dry Zone Farming in Sri Lanka. Saturday, June 23, 2007. Cows' Milk and Powdered Milk the irony. I have a few cows. They are not anything special. Most of my stock are descended from one cow who is old and lives a pensioned life on the land. Her grand daughters are those that give me milk now along with her daughters. The Ambewela farm in Nuwera Eliya has cows that average 25 liters a day, but the climate there is a distinct advantage. I have therefore decided to try and sell my fresh milk straight off th...

Photo Workshop on Santorini Greece with Dan Anderson
Photo Workshop on Santorini with Dan Anderson. On May 3rd 2010 a group of intrepid travelers and photographers met on the patio of the Ira Hotel in Firostefani, Santorini, Greece to begin a photo workshop led by Dan Anderson and organized by Jacque Boehm Steedle of Strabo Photo Tours. It was a long day for some of the travelers as a two day air traffic controller strike had led them to a 7 hour ferry ride rather than a 45 minute flight. This site provides a communication center for the attendees.
a week in seoul | two adoptive parents exploring the city where our daughter was born
A week in seoul. Two adoptive parents exploring the city where our daughter was born. The two kinds of posts…. Bull;September 17, 2008 • Leave a Comment. There are two kinds of posts for each of our days in Seoul…a stripped-down highlights version, and a version where we drag out almost every photo we took that day in some attempt to remember it all. The short ones will probably skip over too much, but the long ones will. What we wish we would have done…. Bull;September 17, 2008 • 2 Comments. I would hav...
A Week In South Bend
A Week In South Bend. Tuesday, May 24, 2005. Posted by Dietrich 9:17 PM. Before I left Norman, my sister recommended I only buy a home if I can get a monthly payment that is equal to or less than what I would be paying to rent an apartment. It sounded like she had worked through the numbers in detail. Apartment rent is a sunk cost, but there are enough sunk costs in mortgage payments (especially interest) that can make them undesirable. Posted by Dietrich 11:55 AM. Day 7: Home Inspection. There weren't a...

A Week In Their Kitchen 2011 | Eating & Blogging off a Calgary Food Bank Hamper for One Week Only
Eating and Blogging off a Calgary Food Bank Hamper for One Week Only. A Week In Their Kitchen 2011. Thank-you everyone who made this year’s A Week in Their Kitchen a great success! Eating solely from the hamper would be a difficult task for anyone, and our bloggers did a fantastic job sticking to the Food Bank diet. The end result of this experience was that the Food Bank doesn’t just distribute food; they hand-out hope and strength to those in need and that every little bit donated does count. Last nigh...
