https://astrocamera.wordpress.com/2014/05/19/friday-may-23rd-space-weather-forecast-moderate-to-heavy-meteor-showers

Astrophotography by Dave Kodama. Friday, May 23rd Space Weather Forecast – Moderate to Heavy (Meteor) Showers. 19 May 2014 – 12:05 pm. If you have some time Friday night before this (U.S.) holiday weekend, go out to a dark site, away from city lights. The dust trail from periodic comet 209P/Linear may give us a nice show of meteors flashing across the sky. Click on image for larger view. Laquo; Sun Pillar. Cameleopardalids fireworks … A fizzle! Comet Lovejoy fading | AstroCamera Shots

https://astrocamera.wordpress.com/2014/01/05/comet-lovejoy-fading

Astrophotography by Dave Kodama. 5 January 2014 – 7:51 pm. Comet Lovejoy – 5 Jan.2014. Click for a larger view and details. Comet Lovejoy is fading, but continues to put on a good show. The shot at right was taken on Sunday morning (5 Jan. 2014). In case you missed the news, Comet ISON did not survive its close encounter with the sun. The SOHO probe shows the comet leaving the vicinity of the sun. But no one has detected any trace of it since then. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

Lunar Eclipse on Monday night (14 Apr) / Tuesday morning | AstroCamera Shots

https://astrocamera.wordpress.com/2014/04/12/lunar-eclipse-on-monday-night-14-apr-tuesday-morning

Astrophotography by Dave Kodama. Lunar Eclipse on Monday night (14 Apr) / Tuesday morning. 12 April 2014 – 11:06 pm. Just a reminder that a lunar eclipse will be happening starting around 11PM PDT (8PM for Hawaii). The entire eclipse is visible for most of the U.S. and takes around 3-1/2 hrs for the most interesting part (entry to exit of the deepest part of the earth’s shadow). Mid-eclipse, when the moon should be darkest, is at about 12:45AM PDT (9:45PM HST). Detailed timing information and charts:.

“Tiny Planet” View of Vanishing Point Observatory | AstroCamera Shots

https://astrocamera.wordpress.com/2014/06/10/tiny-planet-view-of-vanishing-point-observatory

Astrophotography by Dave Kodama. 8220;Tiny Planet” View of Vanishing Point Observatory. 10 June 2014 – 10:49 pm. I don’t know how a fly sees the world, but it might be like this…. While waiting for the moon to set, I decided to take a 360×180 panoramic photo from the top of a tripod stuck just outside the roof of my observatory. When turned “inside-out”, the panoramic photo is popularly called a “tiny planet” photo. Go to: http:/ astrocamera.net/2014/0531/index.htm. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Sun Pillar | AstroCamera Shots

https://astrocamera.wordpress.com/2014/05/15/sun-pillar

Astrophotography by Dave Kodama. 15 May 2014 – 10:01 pm. On May 10th, I saw something that I’ve never seen before in Los Angeles — a sun pillar…. This shot was taken after. Sunset. The vertical column of light in the center of the photo is apparently caused by high altitude ice crystals. It may be nearly summer on the ground, but high up in the atmosphere, it’s always cold enough for ice if the water vapor is present. It may be that I need to get out more often at sunset or sunrise.

Transits

http://www.astrocamera.net/index-transits.htm

Equipment and Technical Information. Transits of the inner planets across the face of the sun are relatively rare compared to solar or lunar eclipses. If the orbits of Mercury, Venus, and Earth were in the same plane, each time the inner planets passed us, we would see a transit of the planet across the sun, with Mercury transits seen more often than Venus transits because it orbits the sun faster. PHYS 111 - Astrophysics Fall 2015-2016. Tuesday, December 1, 2015. Birth of a Planet. For the first time, astronomers have been able to detect the birth of a planetary system.
