Cap'n Fishbein had been shot once in the head. What the papers usually refer to as 'gangland' or 'execution style'. If the victim is not bound, nor bears any evidence of having been bound, cops are going to assume that the murderer was known to the victim. Loomis didn't agree with Goesser's definition of virtue, but it pleased him nevertheless. He wasn't enough of a sap to believe that virtue was its own reward, but he knew that, for him, dishonesty was its own punishment. He was pleased, too, that he had come to something of an understanding with Goesser. He couldn't have defined that understanding, but he trusted it. The best way to describe it was that they both were aware that they hadn't shown all their cards, but the ones on the table were honest ones.
