He was an expert on the Christian communities in the Holy Land, and Founder and first Director of the Jerusalem Center for Jewish-Christian Relations (JCJCR) - promoting understanding and empathy between the various Jewish communities in Israel and the diverse strands of indigenous Christians.

המונח הנוצרי ארץ הקודש מתייחס למדינת ישראל ולרשות הפלסטינית. יש הכוללים בתחום זה גם את ירדן ואף חלקים מסוריה ומלבנון. הכיבוש הערבי-מוסלמי במאה השביעית לספהנ הכתיב את אופיה הדמוגרפי של ארץ הקודש ומרבית הנוצרים החיים בה, כ-160,000 איש (נכון לשנת 2013), הם ערבים. נוצרים אחרים הגיעו כפליטים מארצות זרות (כמו הארמנים) או כמחפשי עבודה. בעקבות העלייה הגדולה למדינת ישראל, משנות ה-90 של המאה ה-20 ואילך הגיעו לארץ נוצרים רבים מרחבי ברית המועצות לשעבר ומאתיופיה. הכנסיה היוונית קתולית (מלכיתית).
