Notes from an Inquisitive Mind. Whatever interests me will hopefully interest you. Monday, June 16, 2014. Not baked in Alaska. We are back from 12 days of vacation in Alaska. The blog's title refers to the fact that the temperature never did get above 70 degrees at any point. (Well, it is Alaska, one of nature's refrigerators.) But it didn't rain when we were out and about, and we did have Baked Alaska for dessert along the way. Want to make friends quickly in a group? We were on a train between Denali N...

Whatever Happened To Super Joe? « Gregg's Baseball Bookcase

Gregg's Baseball Bookcase. Sharing my thoughts and giving my own review on the baseball books I read, because nobody wants to waste time on a bad book! Whatever Happened To Super Joe? This book is obviously a bit dated, but still a good resource for fans. Some of the 45 players interviewed for this book have since passed on, but it gives you a good feel for that individual players take on his own career and what happened after the spotlight burned out. http://buffalobraves.blogspot.com/2009/02/1977-78-season.html
A look back at Buffalo's NBA franchise. Thursday, February 26, 2009. With the Buffalo Braves coming off their bleakest season since 1972-73, job number one was to improve the morale of the franchise. Toward that goal, the Braves made a couple of hires that added people who could only be considered raging optimists. Let’s face it, the Braves’ organization has made some mistakes in the past, but we intend to right all the wrongs," Sonju said at the time. 8220;I need a white center,” Brown said. Let’s...

A look back at Buffalo's NBA franchise. Thursday, February 26, 2009. Ticket stub from the last Braves' home game). No A week later, the drama was finally completed in a totally unexpected way. Brown moved the team to Boston, so to speak. I think the key was that Irv and I laid out the foundation in good faith for the deal. We had a handshake on it," Brown said. "We didn't let the lawyers and accountants change the deal. I found Irv very good to deal with, very honorable. Much, but timing was a huge facto...

Buffalo Braves History: 1975-76 Season
http://buffalobraves.blogspot.com/2009/02/1975-76-season.html
A look back at Buffalo's NBA franchise. Thursday, February 26, 2009. The Buffalo Braves had something of a 400-pound elephant in the room when they considered the upcoming 1975-76 season. And how would having one of the highest-paid players on the team sit on the bench go over with fans and, more importantly, management? The Braves then sent a future first-round choice to Washington for Dick Gibbs. That was rather stunning. Gibbs had played in the NBA for four seasons at that point. He had ne...What the ...

Buffalo Braves History: 1974-75 Season
http://buffalobraves.blogspot.com/2009/02/1974-75-season.html
A look back at Buffalo's NBA franchise. Thursday, February 26, 2009. There was plenty of talent at the very top of the NBA draft in 1974. For the first time since 1970, the Braves couldn't get any of it. Buffalo's winning record had put it right in the middle of the first round, picking ninth out of 18 teams. It had no chance at such players as Bill Walton, Marvin Barnes, Tom Burleson and Bobby Jones. Was it enough to keep the building process going? In part, that's because McAdoo wouldn't let the team c...
