Smith and Ewe, fibre dyer and handspinner: Where have I been?
http://smithandewe.blogspot.com/2015/04/where-have-i-been.html
Tuesday, 28 April 2015. Where have I been? March and April have been incredibly busy this year - starting with the Kamloops Spin-In on March 7. This is our 3rd year for having spinners get together, and once again, we had prime weather and a fabulous time. The cake tasted as good as it looked! Guess whose booth space? It's always good food when someone else makes it -. And this carrot-pear bisque with Wicked Chicken and Coleslaw wraps was great! Virginia Jalava from Barriere modelling her. A new event fo...

Smith and Ewe, fibre dyer and handspinner: Took a mini road trip
http://smithandewe.blogspot.com/2015/02/took-mini-road-trip.html
Sunday, 1 February 2015. Took a mini road trip. Called up my travel buddy Sheila, to see if she wanted to accompany me on a little road trip to check out some yarn stores and deliver 2 broken swifts to my woodworking friend Julia Armstrong. Our first stop was in Salmon Arm at Intwined Fibre Arts. What a lovely store - everything easy to find, and Althea and Sara were a pleasure to chat with. Before she started dyeing yarns, she was a painter - and this is just one series of paintings that she did. Our la...

Sunday, 11 August 2013. Spin-in at the Stewart Farm, Surrey with the Peace Arch Spinners and Weavers. Once again, I was invited to be a vendor at this annual event - the venue is so beautiful, and the company so enjoyable, how could I resist? Shelley Welsh from the Peace Arch Spinners took several pictures and sent them to me - her mosaic shows spinners, the Stewart Farm main farmhouse, some of my fibre for sale, and a gorgeous shawl made by Venessa that got many compliments. Hand dyed Mawata silk hankies.

Sunday, 25 May 2014. Williams Lake Spin-in, May 3, 2014. I was invited to be a vendor at the annual spin-in hosted by the Williams Lake spinners. My favourite travel buddy, Sheila Grant, tagged along with me once again. So off we went with a van full of goodies for sale. Overnighted at the Best Western in Williams Lake and the very helpful front desk lady directed us to the nearby Wal-Mart - we both needed bathing suits - the fastest bathing suit shopping I have ever done! Sheila Grant and Donna Faulkes.

Friday, 29 August 2014. Having fun with Kool-Aid dyeing. A nice sunny day and a huge supply of packs of Kool-Aid - time to do some more dyeing. After spreading the skeins out on a sheet of plastic, I squirted the dye onto the yarn in strips, smooshing down as I went (a very technical term) to make sure the dye penetrated through. After all the dye was used up (it took 2 packets of each to completely cover the skeins), I rolled up like a jelly roll in the plastic, and put into the canning pot to steam.

Wednesday, 19 March 2014. A quick drive in the country to Harmonious Homestead. Once a year, the hardworking owners open their hall to spinners for a day long get together. Here are Bob and Clare Fensom in their fabulous commercial kitchen, working on our delicious lunch, ingredients organically farm raised. And bags of freshly shorn fleece waiting to be purchased. Part of my display - hand dyed rovings and pencil rovings. SHHHHHHHH - we're busy. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Links you might enjoy.

Tuesday, 28 April 2015. Spring in Desert Mesa Spinning Retreat, April 2015. The annual spring retreat held in Cache Creek - Desert Mesa Spinning Retreat. Always a smaller crowd in the spring, but no lack of enthusiasm -. Gudie has been given "Flat Stanley" to tour British Columbia with her, on behalf of a young friend who is doing a school project. Only as Gudie can do! This shawl is made from a merino wool and silk blend that I dyed in yellows, knit by Trixie. Some of Gudie's novelty yarns. Guess whose ...

Tuesday, 29 April 2014. Some happenings at Desert Mesa Spinning Retreat, March 2014. This spring, we had 3 full days of nothing to do but spin, socialize and have fun. Some of us wanted to have even more fun. The 3 Evil-Doers came up with a great activity - Create the UGLIEST SWEATER COOKIE! And here they are - Karen Bonter, Gail Dickson, and Dotty Pon. They brought the baked cookies and a ton of sprinkles and decorations, and made up icing bags. Then they brought us all downstairs and said GET TO IT!

Smith and Ewe, fibre dyer and handspinner: December 2014
http://smithandewe.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 30 December 2014. What have I been up to lately? After the rush and craziness of winter and Christmas events and sales, it was time to slow down and relax. I have been saving odds and ends from dye projects, and samples received, and it was time to start playing with the drum carder. I can get about 70 grams of fibre on this home made carder, which usually works out to about 50-70 yards of handspun yarn, all one-of-a-kind skeins. They are enough to make a cozy hat or headband. Better late than n...
