로켓 추진 원리는 추진 장치에서 배출되는 가스가 로켓에서 나오면서 가스가 로켓을 밀게 되어 로켓이 앞으로 나아가게 되는 방식을 취한다. 이 원리는 뉴턴의 역학 법칙 중 세 번째 법칙인 작용 반작용의 법칙을 이용한 것으로써 모든 작용하는 힘에는 같은 크기의 힘이 반대 방향으로 작용한다는 원리이다. 이러한 추진 작용은 다른 비행기와 다르며 보통 제트기는 베르누이의 원리를 사용하여 날개 위와 아래의 압력 차이에 의해 부력을 얻게 되는 방식이다. 로켓의 추진시스템은 외부의 공기가 필요하지 않을 뿐만 아니라 자체 내에 추진제를 저장하였기 때문에 비행속도나 제트의 속도에 관계없이 작용 반작용의 법칙에 의해 가속된다. 이 로켓 추진 장치는 독일의 폰 브라운 박사에 의해 개발되어 세계 2차대전의 미사일에 사용되다가 패전 이후 독일의 기술자들이 구 소련과 미국으로 흘러 들어가 우주 개발의 핵심 인력이 되기도 하였다. 그러므로 로켓 추진의 기본원리는 뉴턴의 제2법칙과 제3법칙으로 귀결된다.

별자리란 동물, 물건, 신화 속의 인물들로 자주 표현되는 이름을 붙여 놓은 것으로서 주 목적은 하늘의 별들을 찾기 쉽게 이어놓은 것이다. 흔히들 성좌라고도 불리는 이것의 기원은 약 5,000년 전 바빌로니아 지역인 티그리스 강과 유프라테스강 지역의 양치기들에게서 유래한 것으로 이들은 하늘의 별의 형태에 관심이 많았다고 한다. B·C 3,000년경에 제작된 것으로 추정되는 이 지역의 표석에는 양, 황소, 쌍둥이, 게, 사자, 처녀, 천칭, 전갈, 궁수, 염소, 물병, 물고기 등의 황도 12궁을 포함한 20여 개의 별자리가 기록되어 있다. 또한, 고대 이집트에서도 43개의 별자리를 B·C 3,000년경부터 가지고 있었다고 하며 이들의 천문학은 그리스에 전해져 그리스 신화 속의 인물 또는, 영웅 등의 이름을 붙였다고 한다. 본문 콘텐츠 담당자, 최종수정일. 작성자 정보 (연락처 및 저작권).

비행기 추락사고와 같은 대형 참사의 특징은 사고를 일으킨 실체가 거의 소멸되어 좀처럼 원인을 발견하기가 어렵다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위해 등장한 것이 블랙박스이다 믈랙박스는 커다란 충격이나 화재속에서도 유일하게 손상되지 않고 사고 직전의 비행기 상황을 알려주는 장치로 사고현장에서 눈에 잘 띄게 하기 위하여 형광을 입힌 오랜지색이다.
