It was exciting to set the pace and path, bypassing the costly months of training I would have needed to do the same in the states. Following a stroke of genious, I decided to use my stick to tap. Friday, July 06, 2007. The tourist sites in Salvadors downtown were enough to fill a day, including unsucessfully scouring the tourist market for potential gifts. I had met four British guys and two French girls who made the time in Salvador far more exciting during trips to nearby beaches, and nightly visits to Samba and Raggae parties. Saturday, June 23, 2007. Just got off a plane in Belem and slept in the airport until daylight. I've since made my way to the bus station and purchased a ticket to Fortaleza, leaving in a few hours. I decided I was not in the mood for another big city, so I'm going to take a 24 hour bus ride to Fortaleza, followed by another bus heading towards Jericoacoara ( www.jericoacoara.com. Thursday, June 21, 2007. Well, I survived the jungle. Two nights spent in a hammock, three days without a shower, and several pints of sweat later, Im still left craving a little more of the jungle. After donning my R$3 colonial-style wicker hat on Tuesday morning, I boarded a boat with eight other travellers bound for a floating platform several hours upstream the Rio Negra from Manaus, which would serve as our base camp.
