Adventure Training (AT) is one of the most popular activities amongst Air Cadets, and 1224 Squadron has a number of staff members qualified to instruct and lead various AT activities. The ATC has two Air Cadet Adventure Training Centres (ACATC's) in Llanbedr in Snowdonia, Wales and in the Lake District, Cumbria, at Windermere. An activity enjoyed by many cadets is fieldcraft. This involves a lot of team work and a high degree of skill. Much of what is taught is based on what the RAF Regiment, the Army and the Royal Marines do for a living. If you are interested in learning to fly then there are also opportunities to gain a scholarship. Many cadets have gone on to fly solo in gliders, and some have had the chance to gain a flying scholarship. Only those that have what it takes can go on to achieve such great success. The Air Training Corps (ATC) is not a recruiting agency for the RAF but membership will benefit any application to join Her Majesty's Services. Cadets can join from the start of Year 8 up until 16 and 9 months, though they can remain a cadet up until their 20th birthday! If you decide to become an Air Cadet, we will issue you with all the necessary items of uniform on free loan, though you may have to provide your own shoes. The ACO is an equal opportunities organisation, and welcomes along everybody.
